International NGOs

range from secular agencies such as Redda Barna and Save the Children organizations, OXFAM, CARE, Ford and Rockefeller Foundations to religiously motivated groups. Their activities vary from mainly funding local NGOs, institutions, and projects, to implementing the projects themselves. Our country’ s role in international cooperation in the world community is growing in importance as rapid globalization continues. To respond appropriately to the expectations and challenges of fulfilling this role, we understand that it is vital for NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to join in partnership in our efforts and we recognize that the understanding and participation of people from many walks of life and diverse backgrounds are needed in promoting international cooperation. We believe that an understanding and empathy with respect toward each other’s unique situation, the division of our responsibilities and the framework in which we implement our activities, are important in strengthening the partnership between NGOs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in international cooperation. Japanese NGOs engage in a large number of important projects both domestically and abroad. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other government organizations for international cooperation such as JICA and JBIC implement various projects in cooperation with NGOs. By strengthening the partnership between our organizations, we aim to promote NGO activities more vigorously and widely so that we may provide assistance to promote the self-sufficiency of people in developing countries from the perspective of human security.

It can be formed after your Ngo is registered at a National Level. Once your NGO gets an FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act), your NGO becomes an International NGO. There is a myth among the NGO sector that you can form an International NGO directly. As per Indian constitution, there is no such provision. Your NGO will be formed firstly at a National Level. Once your NGO is applicable for foreign funding, your NGO becomes global and can now be called an International NGO.

So, I would advise you not to get confused when you hear the term International NGOs. Your NGO becomes International NGO once you get FCRA certificate after 3 years of the formation of your NGO. If you have any more questions or if you are interested in registering your Ngo at International level, mail us on thengosystem@gmail.com
